Abstract

TGA, XRD and multinuclear solid state NMR were used to follow the dehydration and solid state transformation of the amorphous precipitate obtained by coprecipitation of yttrium nitrate hexahydrate and potassium phosphate trihydrate in basic medium, yielding the hexagonal YPO4,xKOH phase which further progressively transforms to tetragonal zircon-type YPO4 orthophosphate, either under progressive heating or during heating steps at different temperatures. The ion exchange properties of the intermediate phase were investigated by solid state MAS NMR.
